Christmas and New Year is related to where you live and where you from. For each country and religion I guess it has different meaning or simply no meaning at all. Since my family is Christian I grown up as a Christian celebration of Jesus, however, living in Japan for quite long time I got used to the Japanese Christmas as well.
Even though Japan is not Christian country they are trying to bring and adapt Christmas and New Year in a different way, which is totally fine and interesting. For example in Japan on Christmas usually we spend with friends or someone who you`re dating with. Also different from other countries a lot of people work on Christmas, it is like a normal day for them. Therefore I would say that in Japan has no deep meaning it is just a holiday that they think as special occasion. And Christmas somehow it still stick to western countries, although people have changed it because of presents, Santa Claus and any other reasons.
New Year is a little bit different, because as far as I know it is a beginning of a new year to all. So we don’t have to have specific religious meaning to celebrate that. I guess it is more about celebrating new near that is coming that something deeper, for some countries and religions could have deeper meaning for celebrating.
Of course I haven’t change my though about Christmas I have my on beliefs and respect my family for that, but this year I decided to do something different and I will spend this day with friends, because I fell Christmas or December is a month to think about everything that I have don throughout the year. To mix both cultures at one I`m willing to help an institution that need help or something related to that. I`m still looking for some, because I have never do that before. I`m sure that a lot of people won`t agree with me of doing that but I think it is the only to mix both cultures and help who needs it.
